Have summer stressed, heat-abused dull tresses? Here are a few handy tips to keep in mind while you are waiting for your next salon appointment to keep your hair looking like it's in tip-top condition.
Faking It -Help make ragged ends look smooth and shiny by applying a finishing gloss such as L'oreal Kiwi Blow Silk to the tips. Then, briefly use heat from a hair dryer to create shine and give hair a polished finishing look. -Split ends can be fixed temporarily with conditioner. The idea is to get the split pieces to stick together--applying a bit of leave-in conditioner to ends can help fake this healthy look. One great hair helper is L'oreal Absolut Repair repairing cream. -Liven up color with an at-home refreshing system. Try L'oreal Colorist Collection Depositing Shampoo and Conditioner to keep Brunette shades rich, Red shades vibrant and Blonde shades bright. -Great volume can also help hide flaws. Create height in your roots by using L'oreal Volume Expand Styling Mousse and then point the blowdryer up towards the roots--not down--to build volume. -Use a shine serum to fake glossy hair. Make sure you pick a product that is made for your hair type, such as L'oreal Shine Perfection for fine/medium hair or Fluid Intense for thick/coarse hair. Apply, then quickly use the blowdryer pointed downward. This will help hair lie flat so it reflects light for the glossiest finish. -Damaged hair is covered with little "potholes" that are impossible to permanently repair. The only other options are to get a cut, or use a deep conditioner to provide a temporary hole filler. Look for products with proteins and Ionene G that do the job, like L'oreal Absolut Repair Masque or NEW Force Vector reinforcing, anti-breakage masque. -Pull hair into a chignon so damaged ends are tucked away. Try positioning the chignon to one side so that the look is fresh and unique. Finish with L'oreal Infinium 3 or 4 for long lasting style memory and sheen. -Do an at-home remedy to add easy shine, moisture and smoothness. Add a few drops of Pureology Shine Max to your favorite Pureology conditioner. -A polished look can take the attention away from lifeless hair. Limit static or flyaways by spraying a brush with L'oreal Infinium 2 or 3 and running it through hair.
Improving It -Before showering, brush hair so the scalp is stimulated and product build-up is reduced. Be sure to be gentle and only brush hair when completely dry. -Dry hair does not need to be washed every day. Avoid a clarifying shampoo because it will make the hair dryer. Use a hydrating and moisturizing system such as L'oreal Intense Repair. -When shampooing dry hair, concentrate the shampoo at the root area only. When rinsing the shampoo will cleanse the ends. When using conditoner only apply to mid-lengths and ends. Do not apply at the roots as this will cause your hair to feel oily and heavy causing you to feel it is time to shampoo again, sooner. -Use a leave-in conditioner with UV filters such as L'oreal Vitamino Color Leave-in cream or Absolut Repair Leave-in creme. Avoid products with petroleum like Pantene ProV, Herbal Essence, Suave, etc.; they form a coating on the hair and block out moisture. -Consider switching to a professionel brand of hair care products. We are a L'oreal Professionel salon and are able to prescribe the right Series Expert System to help your hair and scalp achieve the right balance. Don't forget to switch your styling products too. Our Texture Expert line is superior in providing excelent moisture balance and is water soluble so it will never build up on the hair.
Protecting It -Don't use a towel to blot curly hair after washing. Instead, use old T-shirts because the soft fabric will help prevent frizz. Use L'oreal Texture Expert Elasticite or Texture twist to finish off your style and product bouncy, frizz-free curls. -Hold your hairdryer a few inches away from your hair to prevent scorching your hair. If your dryer comes with the nozzle/concentrator attatchment use it to put distance between you hair and the heated coils. -Don't go outside with wet hair on bad weather days. Wet hair is more susceptible to breakage. Always detangle wet hair with a wide tooth comb to avoid snagging and breaking any tangled areas. -Avoid taking scissors to you hair and snipping off split ends. Yes, it's really tempting and satisfying to chop off split ends. But your scissors aren't as sharp or accurate as our professional shears. The weak cut will cause hair to split even higher up the shaft. |
